Transparency Act
On July 1, 2022, the Transparency Act came into force in Norway. The purpose is to promote businesses' respect for fundamental human rights and decent working conditions in business relationships and supply chains. It is essential to ensure public access to information regarding these matters and how businesses handle them. Together with other measures, the legal requirement will contribute to Norway's efforts to meet and comply with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 8 on decent work and economic growth, as well as Goal No. 12 on responsible consumption and production. The core of the law entails an obligation to conduct and report on due diligence assessments. Due diligence assessments mean that businesses should map possible negative consequences for fundamental human rights and decent working conditions related to production and supply chains, implement remediation measures, follow up, and report.
